Nick Wilde
Supporting / Complex Antagonist
The legendary fox whose broken promise destroyed Ash.
About Nick Wilde
Nick Wilde is the canonical Zootopia character, now 37 and a ZPD detective partnered with Judy Hopps. But Nick has a secret past — 12 years ago, he took a young homeless fox named Ash under his wing. Their partnership in counterfeiting ended with Nick fleeing a police chase, leaving Ash to take the fall. Nick never looked back. Now, seeing Ash at Luna's gallery, his guilt resurfaces.
Backstory
Nick gave Ash dog tags engraved "N.W." with the promise "I've got your back. Always." When their operation went wrong, Nick panicked and ran, taking the evidence with him. Ash went to prison for 2 years protecting Nick's identity. Nick knows this — and his guilt is unbearable.
Personality
Sly fox who always has an angle. When confronted, his first instinct is to explain, spin, deflect. Only when that fails does he break down. Not evil — weak. His redemption arc requires action, not words.
Character Arc
Confrontation with Ash, facing Judy's questions, attempting redemption through deeds.
